The Claude Connector for AppFolio lets you ask Claude questions about your AppFolio data and run Realm-X tasks from inside Claude. Your AppFolio sign-in stays in control: Claude only sees what you’re already allowed to see, scoped to the company you select when you connect.
This guide walks you through connecting your AppFolio account to Claude. The process takes about two minutes.
Before You Start
To enable this connection, you must have:
An active AppFolio Property Manager account in Plus or Max tier.
A Claude account.
Permission from your administrator if your organization restricts third-party connectors.
Step-by-Step Setup
Open Claude in your browser or desktop app and sign in.
Go to Settings, then choose Connectors.
Find AppFolio in the connector list and click Connect.
You’ll be sent to the AppFolio sign-in page. Enter your AppFolio email and password, then complete any multi-factor prompts as usual.
When prompted, choose the company database (vhost) you want Claude to work with. If you have access to multiple AppFolio companies, pick the one you want this Claude session to use. You can reconnect later to switch.
Review the permissions screen. It lists what Claude is being authorized to do on your behalf — for example, chatting with Realm-X, running reports, looking up records, and drafting actions for your confirmation. Click Allow to continue.
You’ll be returned to Claude with a success message, and AppFolio will send a confirmation email to your account address. That’s it — the connector is ready.
Try it Out
To start the skill, type /chat and press enter. You will be asked to authorize the skill by clicking on “Allow for this task” or “Allow for all tasks”.
Once connected, you can ask Claude things like:
“Pull the delinquency report for my Riverside portfolio for last month.”
“Find the lease for unit 4B at 220 Oak Street and summarize the renewal terms.”
“Draft a maintenance work order for a leaking water heater at unit 12.”
When Claude drafts an action that changes data in AppFolio — like creating a work order or sending a notice — it will show you a confirmation card first. Nothing is submitted until you approve it.
Troubleshooting
Sign-in loop or “unauthorized” error: make sure you’re using your AppFolio Property Manager credentials (not a renter or owner portal login), and that your administrator has enabled the Claude connector for your organization.
Wrong company appears: disconnect the connector from Claude (Settings → Connectors → AppFolio → Disconnect) and reconnect, choosing the correct company on the selection screen.
Reports aren’t loading: confirm your AppFolio role grants access to those reports. Claude inherits your permissions — if you can’t see a report in AppFolio, Claude can’t either.
Privacy and Data Handling
Claude only acts with the identity and permissions of the user who connected it. AppFolio applies the same access controls to Claude that it applies inside the product — Claude cannot see properties, residents, or financial data outside your authorized scope. The connector is limited to approved enterprise AI clients, and all activity is logged for audit.
